March Is The Beginning Of Spring, Right?

March Foward...Springs Glacier Ice Lillys show us there is beauty under the ice as it pops through to reveal a glorious yellow burst of sunshine.

This Lily is known as Erythronium grandiflorum, Yellow Avalanche, Glacier Lily, or Dogtooth Fawn Lily. It is an edible flower but is best cooked first. Plolliated by bumblebees and other bees. The bulbs are an important and preferred food of the Grizzly Bear. Mule deer readily eat the foliage.

At George Town Lake areas are just covered with these flowers sometimes through Father's Day.
